Bad accountants make better marketers
I failed the CPA exam eight times. That experience taught me a lot about my strengths and weaknesses.
For example, I may not understand every accounting standard, exception, and regulatory update, but I do understand accountants (and people in general). My career is unconventional, but each turn has brought me closer to the work I’m best at.
I began my career in Deloitte’s audit practice, supporting tech IPOs in the SF Bay Area. However, eight failed exams, three busy seasons, and one pandemic later, I decided to lean away from accounting and into my strengths and interests.
I went back to school to study design and entrepreneurship at USC’s Iovine and Young Academy. To pay for graduate school, I opened a plant shop in downtown San Jose, which I still proudly consider my biggest accomplishment.
After graduating, I continued building from zero to one as the founding marketer at a pre-seed startup and co-founder of my own company.
Today, I’m a Senior Lifecycle Marketing Manager on Ramp’s Growth team. I spend my days coming up with creative experiments, making big bets, and trying to make accountants' lives easier.
